Transcription added version of a masterclass led by jazz saxophonist Eric Alexander—who continues to inspire countless jazz musicians—at a Jamey Aebersold workshop about a decade ago. In this short clip, Eric demonstrates various ways to use triads to alter the harmonic color of dominant chords. To help jazz students better understand these concepts, I added sheet music to the original video so you can follow the improvisation concepts and identify the tension notes in real time.
